London Food
I tried a few of the most traditional English dishes, such as the Sunday Roast, Fish and Chips, Full English Breakfast, and Afternoon Tea. The Sunday Roast was by far my favorite. I can eat it every day.
The Bao House in Chinatown was also another favorite. I ate there twice. The fish and chip places were good, but not too impressive. The afternoon tea was a lovely surprise as a meal.
Sunday Roast
I started my English food quest with a lamb Sunday Roast from The Old Queens Head in Islington. It is a lively neighborhood pub on Essex Road with karaoke.
Hint: A bartender at another neighborhood pub told me that Sunday Roasts are served on Sundays only. Ask me how I found out: I ordered their Sunday Roast on a Friday and got the traditional facts. Plan your visit well if you only have one Sunday in London, which was my case.
Brunch at Sky Garden
I had brunch at the Darwin Brasserie, located on the 36th floor of the Walkie-Talkie building, which is also home to the Sky Garden observatory. I ordered a fruit platter and some Nutella pancakes.
Hint: Skip the line to the gardens by making a reservation at one of Sky Gardens' bars and restaurants. This way, you will be directed to the elevator faster.
Fish and Chips
My first choice was the FISHORIA Fish and Chips in Covent Garden. The place is small, but the food is delicious. They offer different types of fish, and I chose cod. The chips were crispy and seasoned well. The vinegar on the chips is a must. The pear cider paired well with my meal.
I also had fish and chips from the fish!KITCHEN in Borough Market. I ordered cod again, and it wasn't as good as FISHORIA's.
Full English Breakfast
This was a true breakfast quest. My hotel in Hammersmith was way too far from E. Pellicci's, but I was determined to have my very first Full English from Pellicci's.
My travel time on the London tube to get there was almost two hours, after all the delays and everything else that went wrong on the train tracks that day.
The food is great. I ordered their famous Full English Breakfast with a glass of freshly-squeezed orange juice. The plate is huge, and the food is plenty for two people or more, depending on how hungry you are. The price is great. My whole meal cost £18.
The owners will make you feel like you are family.
Hint: E. Pellicci's takes no reservations and is cash only.
Afternoon Tea
I decided to try the Afternoon Tea at the British Museum's Great Court Restaurant.
This was also another first for me. I had no idea that the Afternoon Tea was a menu item like any other dish at a regular restaurant. My three-tiered platter had delicious cold sandwiches at the bottom, scones with butter and jelly in the middle, and mini cupcakes and macarons at the top plate. Everything I tried was tasty and fresh.
Hint: They offer endless refills for the tea in the teapot.
Bao/Hot Asian Buns
I am suspicious of talking about Bao buns because I absolutely love them. There is something about the texture and taste of a Bao bun that makes me so happy every time I bite into one of these fluffy, soft, sweet, and fulfilling Chinese culinary marvels.
The Bao buns pictured here are from the BUN HOUSE in Chinatown, London. I ate there twice, and on both visits, there was a line at the door. However, it was all worth staying in the queue because everything I ordered was delicious.
Their menu is short, which I prefer. Their selection of Bao buns includes pork, beef, chicken, lamb, vegetarian, and custard. I tried them all in my two visits, and I was glad I did because they were all excellent.
Hint: Stay in line and wait for your turn. Whether you're eating in or taking out a box, it is all worth it. Order one of each of the Bao buns, especially the custard one, but be careful before the first bite, as it can explode. I poked small holes in mine before biting into it.
Samosa Chaat
I took a trip to Cambridge University, and on my way back to catch the bus to the train station, I found Chai Walla Cambridge, a food truck parked on Christ's Lane.
I am glad I stopped to try their specialty: Samosa Chaat. A " broken-up samosa immersed in chickpea curry covered with tamarind and mint sauce sprinkled with chickpea rice noodles" and mango chutney salad.
The food is fresh, made from scratch, with a mild spice kick to it, and delicious.

English Pub Food
On my last night in London, I headed to The Rutland Arms pub in Hammersmith near the hotel I stayed in.
I had some calamari, cider, and steak and chips. The food tasted like homemade and everyting asl delicious.
